Security and Compliance Consultant

Atruent – Columbia, MD

Job Description

Join our dynamic team where your expertise will play a critical role in safeguarding both our organization and our clients as they navigate their compliance journeys. In this pivotal role, you will lead and strengthen compliance frameworks across our Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices, internally and for our clients alike.

You will be responsible for maintaining and continuously improving our own internal security and compliance posture, holding us to the same high standards we expect of our clients. By doing so, you will help reinforce our credibility, integrity, and commitment to doing things the right way, always.

Beyond governance and controls, this role is deeply embedded in our culture. We value transparency, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams and client stakeholders to foster a shared understanding of compliance as an enabler of trust, resilience, and business growth, not just a checkbox exercise. Your proactive, consultative approach will help build a culture where security and compliance are embraced, understood, and continuously strengthened across every level of the organization.

If you are passionate about security, driven by integrity, and energized by helping organizations mature their compliance programs while being part of a team that truly lives its values, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary compliance advisor for clients, guiding them on frameworks such as CMMC, FedRAMP, HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI-DSS, GDPR, and others as applicable.
  • Conduct regular compliance assessments, audits, and gap analysis for clients.
  • Develop and implement compliance roadmaps tailored to client-specific needs.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for compliance initiatives in IT Glue and ensure alignment with Atruent’s standards.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and ensure clients’ processes and systems remain compliant.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute risk assessments, control testing, and remediation plans for financial processes.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting obligations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in filings related to audits.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work with the Sales team to assess potential client security and compliance needs during onboarding.

Reporting & Metrics:

  • Deliver regular compliance reports to clients, summarizing findings, remediation steps, and progress.
  • Present insights and recommendations to Atruent leadership on improving security and compliance practices.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CEH, or GSEC.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Hands-on experience managing compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI-DSS, etc.).

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of security tools and technologies (e.g., SIEM, EDR, threat intelligence platforms).
  • Expertise in compliance assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to manage and inspire teams.
  • Be P.A.R.T. (Passion, Accountability, Respect and Trust) of something big!

Unique Differentiation

We’re a globally diverse, QMCS-certified cybersecurity provider with programs purpose-built for nonprofit success.

Through our #AtruCommunity initiative, we go beyond securing systems. We volunteer alongside your teams, amplify your mission through our platforms, and build relationships that feel more like partnerships than vendor agreements. Our team, representing over 10 countries, brings culturally aware, mission-aligned solutions that reflect the communities you serve.

At Atruent, every nonprofit partner has direct access to our leadership, personalized strategies that respect your goals and budget, and a team that shows up with passion, accountability, and heart. We don’t just protect nonprofits, we champion them.

Quantified Value

Our partnership delivers measurable impact, not just in security, but in mission effectiveness. With SOC 2 Type 2 compliance and guaranteed one-hour response times, Atruent provides enterprise-grade protection tailored to nonprofit realities. The stakes are high: the average cyber breach costs nonprofits over $200,000, resources that should be fueling programs, not recovering from crises.

We take a proactive approach. In 16 years, our clients have experienced zero major data breaches. Our 24/7/365 monitoring safeguards donor data, volunteer records, and beneficiary information, so you can focus on serving your community with confidence.
Through our #AtruCommunity initiative, we go even further, volunteering our time, amplifying your mission through our networks, and building partnerships that extend beyond the tech. The result? Stronger security, lower risk, and more resources redirected to what matters most: your mission.

Relevancy

In today’s digital-first world, nonprofits face growing cybersecurity threats that can jeopardize their ability to serve. With over 60% of nonprofits experiencing cyberattacks, and many lacking the resources to respond, trusted, mission-aligned partners are more essential than ever.

Atruent brings both technical expertise and heart. As a globally diverse, QMCS-certified cybersecurity provider, we understand the unique pressures nonprofits face. Through our #AtruCommunity initiative, we go beyond protection, we amplify your mission, volunteer alongside your teams, and treat every partnership as a shared purpose. Because when we protect your digital infrastructure, we’re protecting your ability to create lasting change.
